Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District’s eagle-viewing facility below Kingsley Dam will open for the season on Sat., Dec. 30 and will remain open through the last weekend in February. The heated facility is open for eagle-viewing from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (MST) on Saturdays and Sundays.  No state park entry permit is required to access the viewing facility. A limited number of binoculars are available, but visitors are encouraged to bring their own viewing equipment.

What attracts the eagles? The Kingsley Hydroplant creates open water, which allows them to fish for food.  Numbers vary from year to year, depending on conditions.  But some years, up to 300 eagles have been spotted at a time.

(Subject to change depending on conditions – check ahead to verify at 308-284-2332.)
