The public is invited to a free Humanities Nebraska program Monday, July 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Kathleen Lute Public Library in Ogallala.

Twyla M. Hansen will present a writing workshop: Playing Around With Words: Writing from the Plains. Hansen was the Nebraska State Poet from 2013 to 2018.  This presentation is made possible by Humanities Nebraska, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and the Ogallala Library Endowment Committee as part of the HN Speakers Bureau.

Anyone who is interested in developing their writing skills is welcome to attend the workshop. Hansen will read selections of her and others’ writing to show how the Great Plains has shaped their poems and stories of place and connections with the natural world. The workshop includes a combination of readings and guided writing exercises for participants to generate their own
poems or short prose. Both beginning and seasoned writers are encouraged to take part.

Hansen says, “Everyone has at least one good story.” She uses prompts to help jump-start the writing, so even if participants do not consider themselves a writer, they can at least get something started.

This presentation is made possible by Humanities Nebraska, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment and the Ogallala Library Endowment Committee as part of the HN Speakers Bureau.
