Join Park Naturalist Heidi Swanson & NGP staff for these August activities. Programs are at the Lake McConaughy Visitors Center (VC) unless otherwise noted. Please call (308) 284-8800 with any questions.
  • August 6 (Tuesday)
    The Night Sky at 9 pm Ash Hollow. Come view the moon, stars, and see if you can spot the Perseid meteor shower! (Aug 7 backup night)
  • August 9 (Friday)
    Nature Book Club at 2 pm at the Lake McConaughy VC. Share your favorite authors, books, and stories that deal with nature.
  • August 10 (Saturday)
    Family Farewell to Summer. 9-11am morning hike and yoga, 11am-1pm Coffee, Cookies & Chat, 1-4pm indoor activities such as creating a nature journal, 5-7pm primitive cooking and picnic, 7-9pm hike through Cedar Point Biological Station (you don’t have to hike the full time), 9-11pm S’mores Night and moth observation.
  • August 14 (Wednesday)
    Lizard Day! 3pm at Lake McConaughy VC. Come learn about local lizards, and make your own.
  • August 16 (Friday)
    Nature walk at 7pm at Lake Ogallala campground. Meet at the Hike/Bike Trail. Binoculars and field guides provided.
  • August 23 (Friday)
    Nature Walk at 7pm at Spring Park, on highway 92 between Lemoyne and Cedar Vue. Binoculars and field guides provided.
  • August 24 (Saturday)
    Butterfly Bonanza family event from 1pm-5pm at the Lake McConaughy Visitors Center. We will make some  butterfly cages and go outside to try them out. We’ll come back inside for snacks and learn about what we saw and how to make a butterfly garden at home.
  • August 30
    Nature Walk at 7pm at Ash Hollow. Afterwards we’ll celebrate Toasted Marshmallow Day at the picnic area. Binoculars and field guides provided.
