Take a Walk in the Park Day
Help celebrate national “Take a Walk in the Park Day” out at the Lake Ogallala Hike/Bike Trail Thursday, March 30tat 5:00 pm.  Bring your family and friends out for a walk along the lake trail with the park naturalist.  We will enjoy an evening stroll while we observe everything that Lake Ogallala has to offer.  Feel free to bring your camera, water, and walking shoes.  There will be binoculars available. Ash Hollow Star Party

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will be hosting a “Star Party” at Ash Hollow State Historical Park on Friday, March 31st at 7:00pm. Follow the road up the hill towards the visitor’s center, and we will be in the first parking area. Join us in observing the night sky! A telescope and an amateur astronomer will be available. Dress warm and bring a chair. Limited refreshments will be provided. Nebraska State Park Entry Permit is required on all vehicles entering the area. Everyone is invited to join Park Naturalist for a walk at the Lake Ogallala Modern Campground Wednesday, May 17 at 5:00 pm.  We will discuss the trees that grow around the lake as we practice leaf printing. All supplies will be provided to create your own leaf masterpiece! Meet near the shower building at the Lake Ogallala Modern Campground. Vehicle Park Permit Required.

Did you know there are endangered species here in Nebraska? You are invited out to the Lake McConaughy Visitor Center to learn more about these animals and conservation efforts, in honor of National Endangered Species Day, Friday, May 19th at 5:00pm. We will also be celebrating National Pizza Party day!  All attendees will get to enjoy pizza donated by Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District. RSVP by May 15th.

Rules Meeting:  Friday, May 19th– 6:00 pm at Sands Edge NOTE:  Registration starts at 5:00

Tournament:  Saturday May 20th and Sunday May 21st

Launching:  Lemoyne Bay (depending on weather – final announcement at Rules Meeting)

Deadline for entry:   Wednesday May 17th 6:00pm  – Entries received after this time will incur a $30.00 late fee – No entries will be accepted after Friday May 20th, 6:00pm (beginning of the Rules Meeting) No Exceptions!!!

Come out to Lake Ogallala to enjoy Free Park Day! Activities will include:

9:00am – Bird walk with the Park Naturalist at the Lake Ogallala hike/bike trail.  Binoculars, guides, and checklist will be available.

1:00pm – A guided nature journaling walk, meet at the Visitor/Water Interpretive Center. Bring a journal for drawing and recording observations.

5:00pm – Camping 101 at the Lake Ogallala Modern Campground.  Learn about the basics to a successful camping trip this summer.  There will be a contest for the fastest tent assembly, campsite games, and s’mores. Join the Park Naturalist out at the lake for an evening of acrylic painting Thursday, May 25th 5:00-7:30pm at the Lake McConaughy Visitor/Water Interpretive Center! Follow guided instruction on an original painting or come up with an idea of your own.  This month’s painting will be bird themed, in celebration of Nebraska Bird Month.  Canvas, brushes, paint, and refreshments will all be provided, for a fee of $12 per person. Ash Hollow State Historical Park

Bird walk 9:00am

Follow the Park Naturalist on a bird walk through Ash Hollow.  Meet at the picnic area.  Binoculars, guidebooks, and checklists will be provided.

Bike ride 1:00pm

Join us again in the afternoon for a light bike ride through the park. Meet at the Ash Hollow Visitor Center.  We will ride the trail on the ridge, then down to the school house.  Bring your water bottle. Vehicle Park Permit required.
